John Thompson III’s mission is to help others walk in purpose and inspired to reach their full potential.
John runs a financial planning practice in partnership with Northwestern Mutual where he helps clients protect, optimize and grow their wealth while creating a lasting legacy.
He is the Founder and CEO of Team ACES, a coaching and consulting company that helps individuals and organizations develop success habits centered on the pillars of Attitude, Connection, Empowerment, and Strength (ACES). Through 1:1 and group coaching as well as professional development workshops, John helps individuals elevate to the top of their game and become ACES in business and life.
Across a 25-year career journey leading sales and operations with GE and United Technologies, John shaped his career path with purpose and intention. Prior to launching his financial planning practice, John served as Regional Vice President of Imaging for GE HealthCare where he led a team of Sales Leaders and Account Managers focused on driving orders, revenue and service margin while provide high technology equipment solutions to clients. Prior to that, he spent time with GE Water & Process Technologies, GE Transportation, and UTC Fire & Security in various roles of increasing responsibility.
Throughout his career, John received numerous honors and awards and is passionate about giving back and developing the next generation of leaders. He served as the Global Operating Leader for the GE HealthCare African-American Forum Employee Resource Group. His sales teams have delivered over $1B in revenue and consistently ranked at the top in performance metrics of orders, revenue, and margin.
John holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, MBA from Penn State University, and a Strategic Sales Management Certificate from Harvard Division of Continuing Education. He is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, Board Certified Executive, Career, and Life Coach through the Center for Credentialing and Education, and Associate Certified Coach from the International Coaching Federation.
He is the author of the book Stack Your Deck: How to Be an ACE in Business & Life, where he shares his leadership wisdom, guiding readers to tap into their greatness and cultivate success habits through the pillars of Attitude, Connection, Empowerment, and Strength (ACES).
In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his family, playing a round of golf, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He resides in the Washington DC area with his wife and two daughters.
